Altimeter

The altitude is measured by the 'static' environment pressure, like a barometer.
While climbing the environmental pressure decreases which is translated by the altimeter in a higher altitude.
In time and also moving (flying) from one place on earth to another the local barometer pressure changes.
This makes it necessary for the pilot to adjust the barometersetting.
The pilot must choose here between the QNH: the pressure at sea level, the QFE: the pressure at the altitude of the airfield and the standard pressure (1013,25 HPa or 29.9 InHg). For more information about this jubject, look at this manual or do some calculations.

Like the real instruments our instruments are adjustable for the barometer pressure, which is communicated to the flight simulator. A change in the barometer setting on the computer is also effectuated in the instrument.
